During the 15th episode of "Reborn Rich, " Do Jun makes another trap for his family and they all fall for it one by one, with this trap he set up, he exposes their corruption and puts them front and center amid severe public backlash and calls from the people to punish Soonyang for their crimes of embezzlement and such. Being hunted down by the prosecution for embezzlement, Hyeon-woo learns that he was the fall person for the slush fund. This episode, I love how efficiently Show gives us the story of Dong Ki's (Jo Han Chul) attempt to take over Miracle, which eventually evolves into Do Jun taking over Soonyang Investments. Suddenly, the vibe I got from it all, was not too different from the vibe I get from that kind of sageuk, where it's just all about a bunch of bearded men talking at each other. All we see, is that Do Jun is quite thrilled to see Min Young, in this new life of his, and then takes every opportunity to make a connection with her. Initially I was apprehensive that Reborn Rich may be similar to Vincenzo, his last drama prior to Reborn Rich where his character left an indelible mark on me, but was I in for a surprise. Most notably, the moments when Grandpa Jin goes from irascible, impatient scowl, to a combination of shock, fear and childlike timidity, in the blink of an eye, as he becomes cognizant of his frailty and delirium, are just SO well done. THE SHORT VERDICT: For a good portion of its run, I found Reborn Rich to be an utterly engaging, absorbing rollercoaster of a ride. I wanted to give Young Ki a shout-out, because, I thought Yoon Je Moon played him with a nice amount of nuance, and gave us glimpses into Young Ki's insecurity, vulnerability and humanity, underneath his mostly stoic surface.

Luckily, Do Jun arrives just in time to get him medical help. Hwa Young's such a flamboyant sort of character, and Kim Shin Rok inhabits that flamboyant skin so well, that when she actually shows glimmers of Hwa Young's vulnerability, I found myself feeling a little gobsmacked by how raw and real that feels, underneath the loud, glamorous surface. He sees Hae-In and Yoon-Ki. Park Ji Hyun as Hyun Min. After all, that's where we'd started, and if we didn't return to his story, then there would be no justice for Hyun Woo, right? He's just so.. controlled and measured, and.. well, kinda normal, really, generally speaking, that while watching, I even kind of forgot that he'd just lost his mother. Launching a wide investigation on conglomerates' illegalities to sway public opinion, Dong-ki tips Chang-je to probe Do-jun. We expect the exact details of it to be revealed going forward, but for now, we can guess that Hando Steel in the hands of his uncle would have given him a lot of power, which would have seriously hampered Do Jun's future prospects. The way Show ties details together. Thankfully, the family was able to finish the event without the media revealing the chairman's status. Putting all of that together, I just can't help but root for him to succeed, particularly since the folks from Soonyang Group whom he works for, all seem to be horrible, cruel &/or messed up. Seong Jun insults him further but returns nonetheless. Here's a quick spotlight on a scene from episode 2, where Kim Kang Hoon took the lion's share of screen time as Do Jun, and did an excellent job of it. Hyun-Min tells Hyun-Woo that Sung-Joon needs to show up because of the speech. She takes care of him. I had NOT seen that coming! Seong Jun here presents a complicated character. That mutual respect that is part of their rivalry, grows into legit care and compassion, such that one wouldn't take advantage of the other, if the other were injured or otherwise incapacitated. I'm very impressed that writer-nim had it all mapped out, that Do Jun's inheritance from Grandpa Jin, would be the very document that had led to his demise, as Hyun Woo. Which is why this is in the "OK" section of my review. Prosecutor Seo is determined to prove the professional misconduct of the Soonyang family, and she seizes assets at the Hyeon-woo office. Assistant Shin idolizes him for being the chairman's most trusted employee for over five years, regardless of the massive workload and is eager to know what he needs to do to be like Hyeon-woo.

Logically, I understand why Show would take our story back to Hyun Woo's timeline. I've alluded to this, earlier in this review, but I did feel that Show was a bit lacking, on the emotional front. Hwa-Young meets with Min-Young in the car. I wanted to give Kim Do Hyun a bit of a shout-out, not because Chang Je was a favorite character or anything. What I mean is, didn't Hyun Woo know that the person who'd died, was Do Jun, grandson of Soonyang?
And Show is trying to tell me, that Hyun Woo's phone somehow managed to record Manager Kim's conversation with Young Ki, after the phone had ended? Not only does he decline the cash that Grandpa Jin offers in exchange for his help, he asks for land, which he knows will increase in value over time. The Chairman arrives at the scene and repeats the advice Do Jun knows, word for word, to Seong Jun. Regardless, Hyeon-woo reports the overseas account to the new chairman Seong-jun who fires the finance manager and promotes Hyeon-woo to replace him. It's like, mentally, I understand why Show took the direction that it did, for its chosen ending.
The door of the elevator opens. Such a small little cool badass, hee. But then, when Sung Joon counter proposes Young Ki as a CEO candidate, while strongly hinting to the board members, that a young Soonyang with Do Jun at the helm, wouldn't have room for old fogies like them. It's pretty darn cool, that details from the past, that Show had told us about in episode 1, in the future timeline, actually unfold in real time, in this episode. Do I think that it's his best drama outing ever? Now that they're married and she's, well, trapped in this thing, with him, he looks and sounds like the total opposite of the smiling, affable person he'd presented himself as, when he'd first met her.
